About me
I am an Associate Professor of Demography at the "Paolo Fortunati" Department of Statistics of the University of Bologna.
Previously, I was Senior Researcher at the Demography Unit of the University of Stockholm (SUDA) and at the Institute of Social Sciences (ISS) of the University of Lausanne.
In 2016, I obtained a PhD in Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute (EUI) with a thesis on "Fertility in Time of Economic Crisis. The Great Recession effects on childbearing in the United States".
I collaborate with several groups of researchers in Italy and Europe. With scholars in Italy and Sweden, I study the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on childbearing intentions and behaviour in Europe, and the recent fertility declines in the Nordic countries.
I am a member of the research group PRIN-PNRR – FORTIES studying latest-late fertility in Italy.
I am the Task leader of the project “Impact of bereavement on mortality and health outcomes” within the PNRR PE8 project Age-It, Ageing well in an ageing society in which I collaborate with researchers at INPS and at the University of Bologna to study the impact of widowhood on mortality and health in Italy.
I am the Principal Investigator of the research project (FIS2, 2025-2028) SO-UNFER, Social Uncertainty and Fertility that investigates how economic and social uncertainty—spanning the micro, meso, and macro levels—influence the childbearing decision process, from intentions to actual births, uncovering new insights into persistently low birth rates in developed countries and their ties to inequality and welfare systems.

I was born in Italy on 10 December 1984. I hold a BA and a MSc in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University in Milan.
